Work With the FBI
FBI recruiter Brenda Kane will be visiting Northern on Tuesday, April 11, 2-5 p.m. to share career opportunities with the FBI! Students of all majors are encouraged to attend. Agent Kane will be tabling in the Student Center from 2-4 p.m. before presenting more about FBI careers in the Maroon Room (SC 267).
Science Fair Thank You

Noon Forums
The Spring 2023 Noon Forum series continues Wednesday, April 12, at noon in the Beulah Williams Library Round Room, featuring “Chat GPT: You Ain’t ready for AI, but AI is Ready for You,” with Grant Manhart. Noon Forums, which are free and open to the public, are sponsored by Faculty Senate, the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, and the Center for Public History and Civic Engagement. Senior Recital
Justin Desens and Tanner Pietz will hold their senior recital at 7:30 p.m. April 13 in Krikac Auditorium. Desens, who plays the tuba, will perform “Oboe Concerto in D minor, Op. 9 No. 2,” by Tomaso Albinoni; “Ordner Seg,” by ?ystein Baadsvik; and “Sonata for Tuba and Piano,” by Paul Hindemith. He will be accompanied by Sue Gates and Dr. Kenneth Boulton. Pietz, a bass/baritone, will perform “At the River,” “Watchman!” and “Charlie Rutlage,” by Charles Ives; “Lied Maritime” and “Madrigal,” by Vincent d'Indy; “Night,” by Florence Price; “For You There Is No Song,” by Leslie Adams; and “Der Nussbaum,” “Der Soldat” and “Widmung,” by Robert Schumann. Kay Fischer will accompany him.
Free Concert for Students
Aberdeen Community Concert Association will present a concert, Chester Gregory - Tribute to Jackie Wilson and Friends, featuring 50s and 60s soul, R&B and rock-n-roll music. The concert is set for 7 p.m. Thursday, April 13, at the NSU Johnson Fine Arts Center Jewett Theater. Northern students can attend this concert for free with student ID. Employee Performance Awards
Northern will recognize employees for their years of service with the State of South Dakota on Thursday, April 20, 2023, at noon in the Kessler’s Champion Club.

Northern Edge Grant Application Deadline Extended
The application deadline for the Northern Edge Grant has been extended to April 17 at 5 p.m.! The Northern Edge Award is a new funding opportunity, Open to undergraduate and graduate students, that’s designed to augment existing funding sources for undergraduate scholarship. Poetry Open Mic Night
Williams Library, in conjunction with the NSU English Club, presents Poetry Open Mic Night at 7 p.m. Monday, April 17, in the Library Round Room. Come enjoy an evening of poetry. Bring poetry to share (yours or a favorite to read aloud). The event is open to all students, faculty and staff.
Math Contest
Northern will host the 68th Annual Mathematics Contest on Wednesday, April 19, at the Barnett Center. High school students from around the area are invited to participate in one of four divisions: Elementary Algebra, Geometry, Advanced Algebra and Senior Math. The contest awards ceremony is scheduled for 1 p.m. While the contest is closed to the public, members of the community are invited to attend the awards ceremony. Trophies will be awarded to the top five finishers in each division and a plaque will be presented to the coach of each first-place winner. The school in each class having the highest percentage combined score across all four divisions will be awarded a travelling trophy.
NSU Football Blood Drive
NSU football/ LifeServe Blood Center is putting on the annual blood drive on April 24, from 9 a.m.-2:30 p.m. in the Kessler’s Champion’s Club. This blood drive has been the largest blood drive on campus and in Aberdeen for many years, and we would really like to keep that streak going this year. It would be great if you could help by your participation and/or your help in promoting the drive to your teams or departments. The goal is to get to at least 39 units donated throughout the day on April 24. We understand not everyone is excited about the thought of needles or giving blood, but your donation could help save lives locally.
How can your blood donation help?
? Burn victims can receive up to 20 plasma units
? Automobile accident victims can receive up to 50 units or red blood cells
? Cancer patients can receive up to eight platelet units a week
? Premature infants can receive up to five units
? Heart surgery patients can use up to six units of red blood cells + six platelet units
? Organ transplant patients can use up to 25 units of plasma + 30 platelet units + 40 units of red blood cells

Tech and Entrepreneurship Camp
Northern will host a free Tech and Entrepreneurship Camp for area teens this summer, sponsored by the NSU Office of Innovator Empowerment. The camp, open to students entering grades 9-12 in fall 2023, will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and will run for five weeks, starting May 30 and running through June 27. Northern will also be hiring Summer Camp Peer Mentors for the camp.
