Dr. Schmidt received her CPA certificate after graduating with a bachelor’s degree. She worked in public accounting for 10 years before starting her career at Northern in fall 2008. Dr. Schmidt also served as associate dean until the position was eliminated, and serves as a co-chair in the School of Business.

Research
Dr. Schmidt’s research focuses on using accounting analytics to optimize business decision making. She is also doing research on identifying gaps between the learning outcomes that are currently being taught within the accounting curriculum and what is expected by industry.
 
Service
Schmidt has served on many campus committees over the years, including the Academic Affairs Council, Graduate Council, Faculty Senate, Advisor of the Accounting Club, General Education Committee, and HLC Criterion Committee (co-chair).
