ABERDEEN, S.D. – Four Northern State University alums have recently been accepted into the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine in Vermillion.

The four NSU alums will join 67 other students comprising the class of 2021. More than 700 individuals applied for admission, according to information from the University of South Dakota.

Accepted NSU alums include:

McKenna Eisenbeisz of Bowdle, 2016 graduate of NSU with a B.S. degree in biology.

Tori Biach of Bradenton, Fla., 2017 Honoribus graduate of NSU with a B.S. degree and double majors in biology and chemistry. Biach’s senior thesis was titled “Molecular Mechanisms of Pseudomonas syringae Virulence,” with Dr. Andrew Russell, assistant professor of biology, as her thesis advisor.

Tiffany Kopetsky of Aberdeen, 2017 Honoribus graduate of NSU with a B.S. degree in biology. Kopetsky’s senior thesis was titled “The Synthesis of Thiazoles for Antimicrobial Purposes,” with Dr. George Nora, assistant professor of chemistry, as her thesis advisor.

Dr. George Nora, assistant professor of chemistry, said this news is a great reflection of what is happening on campus.

“Ever since I started at Northern, the only way to go has been up. Whether it be improving the quality of instruction, facilities, research or even lab equipment, we are enhancing so many things on campus that directly affect the talent coming out our university,” Nora said. “This is also especially great news for me, a pre-med advisor, as these students are people who I directly worked with during their time at Northern.”
