ABERDEEN, S.D. – On Oct. 18, from 7 to 8:30 p.m., in honor of Native American Day (Oct. 9), a free public viewing of “AWAKE, A Dream From Standing Rock,” will be held in Northern State University’s Krikac Auditorium.

This film is being sponsored by the NSU Native American Student Association and NSU Department of Student Affairs.

“AWAKE, A Dream from Standing Rock” captures the story of Native-led defiance that forever changed the fight for clean water, our environment and the future of our planet. The documentary premiered at the prestigious Tribeca Film Festival in NYC as part of the festival’s N.O.W. special screening section. The premiere was attended by many indigenous activists and water protectors, including the founder of the first camp at Standing Rock, LaDonna Brave Bull Allard.

A unique collaborative documentary created in three chapters, each helmed by a different filmmaker, the feature length film is directed by Academy Award-nominated filmmaker and activist Josh Fox (“Gasland,” “How To Let Go Of The World And Learn To Love Everything Climate Can’t Change”), Academy Award-nominated filmmaker James Spione (“Silenced,” “Incident in New Baghdad”) and indigenous filmmaker and Digital Smoke Signals founder Myron Dewey.

Executive produced by Doug Good Feather, Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Amy Ziering (“The Invisible War,” “The Hunting Grounds”) and Lauren Taschen, the film’s score features music from indigenous musician/activists Nahko, (Nahko and Medicine for the People) and Prolific the Rapper. Floris White Bull and Doug Good Feather serve as advisors. White Bull is also one of the film’s writers.

More information about “AWAKE” is available at awakethefilm.org, or on the film’s Facebook page. For screening requests, contact climaterevolutiontour@gmail.com.

The nonprofit International Wow presents the film; all proceeds will be donated to further the film’s mission through the Pipeline Fighters Fund and Indigenous Media Fund, which were created by the filmmakers to support future pipeline battles and indigenous journalists.
