ABERDEEN, S.D. – A reception for Alexis Doerr’s senior art exhibition will be held Tuesday, March 28, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Northern State University Student Center.

The exhibition, titled “An Artistic Utterance,” will be on display Monday, March 27, through Friday, April 7.

Doerr will primarily display paintings with mixed media elements such as embroidery, along with some of her graphic design works.

“Painting is my favorite artistic method, but lately I have been using graphic design to convey my artistic message as well,” she said.

Doerr, the daughter of Jim and Char Doerr of Aberdeen, graduated from Aberdeen Central High School in 2012.

Doerr is majoring in graphic design and communication studies with a public relations emphasis. She is also pursuing an arts administration certificate and public history certificate. She will graduate this May.

Doerr is currently waiting to hear from graduate schools, where she hopes to earn a master’s degree in art history with a museum studies emphasis in order to be an art museum curator. If that doesn’t work out, she intends to look for graphic design positions within the state and region.

While at Northern, Doerr has studied with an array of professors, but primarily the entire art department faculty and Dr. Erin Fouberg.

“When looking for schools, I knew I wanted to pursue the arts, and Northern revealed itself as having the right facilities and a strong arts faculty to give me the best education,” she said.
