  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – A local businessman and longtime supporter of Northern State University will be honored at this Saturday’s winter commencement ceremony.

    Patrick Teal will receive an honorary degree at the ceremony, set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center.

    Teal attended Northern State College from 1973 to 1975. He worked while attending Northern, and soon chose to leave school to pursue his career. He started working part time for Tradehome Shoes in 1976.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s Banking and Financial Services master’s degree program is now offered completely online – making it even more convenient for professionals looking to advance their career.

    The program used to require a summer residency, but students would often have to use vacation time to come to campus, said NSU School of Business Interim Dean Dr. Doug Ohmer. If it didn’t work out, they would have to wait an entire year before they could finish the program.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University School of Business and the NSU Phi Beta Lambda/Business Club are sponsoring a series of seminars this fall on the Northern campus.

    Each session of “Investing in Yourself Student Seminars” takes place in the NSU Johnson Fine Arts Center Room 117. The series kicked off earlier this week with Northern alum Gene Lorenz presenting “Building Your Financial Capital – Investing in Your Future.”

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University will continue its partnership with Primrose Retirement Community in presenting an arts and lecture series featuring an array of interdisciplinary topics and music performances.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University School of Business graduates Kaylee Babcock and Taylor P. Beutler have already achieved success – both have full-time careers in their chosen fields, joining the 87 percent of NSU graduates who say their degree related to their first professional position.

    But Babcock and Beutler recently accomplished even more: Both scored among the top five in the state of South Dakota for the CPA exam, a national exam for all candidates to become licensed certified public accountants in their home state of practice.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – This year’s Create ‘N’: A Festival Celebrating Entrepreneurship, Creativity, Innovation and Workforce will bring the founder of UGG Boots to the Northern State University campus.

    The 2019 Create ‘N’ Festival will take place 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25, in the NSU Johnson Fine Arts Center. The annual event invites a keynote speaker and local entrepreneurs to share their experiences with area high school and college students.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University students and community members have the chance to experience new countries and cultures this academic year thanks to faculty-led study abroad programs.

    Five programs have been finalized:

  • PIERRE, S.D. – The South Dakota Board of Regents this week approved academic program requests from public universities, including Northern State University, to meet workforce and community development needs across the state.  

    For Northern, requests were approved for new undergraduate certificates in behavioral forensic sciences and quantitative analytics in science and a graduate certificate in Germans from Russia studies.
