
Sara Clough MSN, FNP-C, CEN is a Lecturer of Nursing at Northern State University. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Truett-McConnell University and her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) in Family Practice with a focus on rural healthcare from the University of Alabama. She graduated from the North Georgia Advanced Practice Program (NoGAPP), a residency program focusing on the unique health needs of rural, low-income populations. She is a board certified Family Nurse Practitioner focusing on prevention and chronic disease management for underserved populations.
Prior to her work as a Nurse Practitioner, Sara worked as an Emergency Room Staff Nurse in Athens, Georgia where she provided hands-on care to patients of all ages with a wide-variety of acute and chronic conditions and served as preceptor to new-graduate and new-hire nurses. She also holds a national certification in Emergency Nursing. Ms. Clough continues to practice as an RN at a local-critical access hospital and as a Nurse practitioner at a local acute care.
Her teaching philosophy focuses on real-world examples and hands-on learning. She places special emphasis on understanding the why behind every intervention and believes that a solid foundation in the fundamental sciences of nursing is the cornerstone of safe practice. She is particularly passionate about helping students understand the impacts of social determinants of health on their patient’s lives and appreciate their roles as patient advocates.
