  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Author Jon Lauck will visit Northern State University this month to discuss his new book, “The Good Country: A History of the American Midwest 1800-1900.”

    Lauck’s visit, sponsored by the NSU Center for Public History and Civic Engagement, will take place at noon Wednesday, April 26, in the Beulah Williams Library Round Room.

    The event, part of the NSU Noon Forum series, is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University alumna Nichole Bowman, winner of a prestigious national teaching award, will deliver the commencement address at Northern’s 2023 Spring Commencement.

    The ceremony is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2023, in the NSU Barnett Center.

    Bowman, who teaches math at T.F. Riggs High School in Pierre, was one of only about 60 teachers nationwide to win the 2022 Milken Educator Award, which is considered the "Oscar of teaching."

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Thunder Labs at Northern State University invites area residents to bring their creative ideas to an Ideation Workshop on Wednesday, April 19, 3-5:30 p.m. at the NSU Library.

    This is an interactive “no judging allowed” workshop designed to help aspiring tech entrepreneurs explore new, unusual, big and disruptive ideas in a supportive, low-risk environment.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Aberdeen University/Civic Symphony invites you to a concert celebrating American music at 7:30 p.m. April 22 at Northern State University.

    The concert, which will be held in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Jewett Theater, features winners of the NSU Concerto/Aria competition: Megan Dockter (clarinet) and Eli Houdyshell (Tenor).  A Pre-Concert Conversation is scheduled for 6:45-7:15 p.m. in JFAC Berggren Recital Hall.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s Dr. Steven Usitalo is part of an organization planning a commemorative event, Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day, at the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul this month.

    The event, set for 1-4 p.m. April 23, marks the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, which began on April 24, 1915. The Remembrance Day will include presentations on Armenian history, culture, architecture, poetry, music and food, as well as on the Armenian Genocide.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – On April 15, Northern State University student-athletes will team up with the United Way of Northeastern South Dakota in service to the Aberdeen community and region.

    Saturday is the 21st annual Day of Champions, and the Wolves will spend the day volunteering at various community organizations, performing tasks from cleaning to painting to yard cleanup.

    The Day of Champions started in 2002 as a collaborative effort between the NSU Athletic Department and the United Way.… more

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University student Grace Kramer has been named a finalist to this year’s South Dakota Governor’s Giant Vision Competition.

    Kramer, a biochemistry major from Aberdeen, was named a finalist in the Student Business Competition for her business idea, eqUTI, which prevents urinary tract infections in women. Kramer’s idea also won more

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The annual Northern State University Jazz Swing Party will be held 7-11:30 p.m. Friday, April 28.

    The public is invited to the event, which will feature live swing music at Engel’s Event Center, 209 S. Main St., Aberdeen.

    Performing will be Northern’s Two O’clock Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Grant Manhart, One O’clock Jazz Ensemble, directed by Dr. Terry Beckler, and the Citrisity Band.
