  • ABERDEEN, S.D. (May 3, 2017) – After studying abroad in South Korea, Northern State University student Taylor Bice knew he wanted to pursue a career teaching English overseas.

    Now, Bice will begin that career as the recipient of the prestigious Fulbright U.S. Student Program Award from the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board. Bice, an Aberdeen native, will return to South Korea this July for a year-long English teaching assistantship program.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. (May 2, 2017) – On Saturday, May 6, 260 students will graduate at Northern State University’s spring commencement.

    The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. in the NSU Barnett Center.

    South Dakota Supreme Court Chief Justice David Gilbertson will deliver the commencement address. Student speaker will be 2016-17 Student Association President Corey Klatt.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – The Northern State University Symphonic Band and Concert Band will perform their “Band Extravaganza: A Musical Smorgasbord!” concert at 3 p.m. on Sunday, April 30, in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Main Theater.

    The concert will feature a wide variety of band favorites.

    Featured pieces being performed in the concert include “Mother Earth Fanfare” by David Maslanka, “Prelude Siciliano and Rondo” by Malcolm Arnold, “Washington Post March” by John Philip Sousa, “Dancing in Rain” by Yo Goto, and “Curtain Call” by John Wasson.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State University’s Native American Student Association (NASA) along with Aberdeen Central High School’s NASA chapter will hold a Spring EGGstravaganza on April 29 from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m.

    The event is a celebration of the arrival of spring and will be held on the NSU campus green. NASA plans to host many fun outdoor games and festivities such as face painting, pop ring toss, egg races, go fish and four age group egg hunts.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – A Northern State University student with a passion for plants has been awarded a grant to travel to the national Botanical Society of America meeting this summer.

    Sienna Wessel will attend the Botany 2017 conference in Fort Worth, Texas, June 24-28, which will include field trips to study local flora, symposia about cutting-edge research techniques and professional skill workshops. As a recipient of the PLANTS travel grant, Wessel will also receive an individual mentor who shares similar career goals.

    ABERDEEN, S.D. – Taylor Wall and Michael Benjamin Weber will hold a senior recital at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 30, in Northern State University’s Krikac Auditorium.

    Wall, the daughter of Kevin and Jody Wall, grew up in Breckenridge, Minn., graduating from Breckenridge High School in 2013.

  • ABERDEEN, S.D. – South Dakota Supreme Court Chief Justice David Gilbertson will deliver the spring commencement address at Northern State University.

    The commencement ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 6, in the NSU Barnett Center.

    Gilbertson received his undergraduate degree from South Dakota State University in 1972 and his Juris Doctor from the University of South Dakota, School of Law in 1975.
